Projects

French music

Claude_Monet_037_edited.jpg

We have a very rich French culture, which is why it is natural for me as a French pianist to be able to defend and make people discover (or rediscover) the great masterpieces of our common past.

Just as the defense of the local terroir has real meaning in my eyes, I like to present during my concerts composers less well known than our dear Debussy and Ravel, but just as interesting, deeply attached to their land, like Déodat de Séverac for Languedoc, or even Paul Le Flem for Brittany.

Thus, I develop my repertoire with this idea of conservation and dissemination of French music in mind.

Debussy Project

I have been carrying out this project for several years. I have a great love for his music, and it constitutes the heart of my playing as a pianist, as it is rich in lessons and different sounds.

So I had the idea of working on his entire work for piano.

It seems to me that his music is so modern that it has not yet been completely assimilated. His orchestral conception of the piano is for me the basis of my work, and the search for colors and alchemy between textures is part of my daily research.

It's about understanding the elements necessary to translate your dream, and having the sufficient conviction to share it with the people who listen.

Piano concertos

32350054_10216159212638246_4068740987583725568_n.jpg

The performance of a concerto for piano and orchestra forms one of the achievements of the life of a classical pianist. It is the fruit of long months, even years of work, so it constitutes a special event each time.

I am therefore building up a repertoire of great concertos, such as Ravel's Concerto in G, the dizzying Concerto for the left hand, the Schumann Concerto or those of Chopin.

They are traveling companions who have followed me for several years now, witnesses to my musical evolution and as an artist.

Duo Constance Grandperrin - Geoffrey Nguyen

I met Constance while studying at the Royal Conservatory in Glasgow. Very quickly our two musical universes showed themselves to be complementary. We therefore started giving concerts first in Scotland, then recently in France, notably at the Mariott Hotel on the Champs Elysées in December 2023.

Playing with a singer of such high quality is always an immense pleasure, especially because we agree perfectly on the artistic direction of the duo, namely exploring different musical horizons, while having a repertoire base of French melodies.

A word about Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann_Sebastian_Bach.webp

The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is for me one of the ultimate goals to achieve as an artist. His music is for me highly spiritual, so it requires a high degree not only of mastery of polyphonic music, but also a very great deal of knowledge and self-control. I therefore see the study of his work in parallel with the rigorous and meticulous study of my interiority.

It is therefore a project which will be carried out over the very long term, but which once completed will constitute a great achievement for me as a human being.
